3 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Childcare Service

Posted on: 10 August 2021

One of the things that new parents dread is having to go back to work after maternity leave. The idea of leaving someone else to take care of a child can be daunting, and most parents even experience separation anxiety. However, the situation does not have to be that complicated. You can find a childcare centre that will cater to the needs of your child. Here are the three factors to consider when choosing a childcare service for your child.

1. Hours of Operation

The first thing you realise when you start working on the childcare schedule is that every hour counts. Therefore, you will find it necessary to get a childcare centre that opens early and closes late. The centres with flexible hours come in handy when you are stuck in traffic, have an early morning meeting, or have to stay late and finish some work. Therefore, before engaging a childcare service, ensure they can stretch their hours a little beyond the normal work hours when necessary.

2. The Caregivers

The person that will take care of your child will become their part-time caregiver. Find someone trained and experienced in early childhood learning to take care of your child. Additionally, they should have kindness, warmth, empathy and all other positive qualities of an excellent caregiver. Your child will form a healthy emotional attachment when they have a caring and affectionate caregiver.

The secure attachment that they make with the caregivers gives them the confidence to face the world. Also, remember to check the rate of employee turnover. Your child will have a stable transition when they get used to seeing the same friendly faces for long periods.

3. The Learning Environment

A childcare centre is also where your child might learn their first speaking, listening and socialising skills. It is advisable to ensure that the environment is stimulating enough to better your child's learning process. Take your time and go around the premises and see how they have set up the classes.

Only engage the facilities with the right tools and equipment to guide your children in discovering how the world works. Safety is also a critical concern when it comes to the learning environment. Check to make sure they have met the ideal safety measures before enrolling your child.

The quality of care your child receives will determine how well they transition from being under your care to the next level. Take time and choose an institution that resonates with your parenting and learning philosophies.

Child care after school

In some ways, it gets even harder to find child care for your kids when they start school. Not many jobs allow you to do school pick-ups and drop-offs each day and my job definitely requires more time in the office than that. Many parents find innovative solutions to make it all work, but other parents seem to really struggle with finding a great solution that works for them and the kids. That's why I thought I'd start a blog where parents and child care gurus could swap tips on the best ways to organise child care for school aged children.
