Top Tips When Choosing A Child Care Centre

Posted on: 23 March 2021

Many parents are anxious when enrolling their children in child care centres. More often than not, they worry that their kids will not fit in or receive the level of care that they get at home. Below is an article with some questions to help you interview a child care facility. Hopefully, it will help increase your confidence in the services offered.

What Is Your Program?

The child care centre should have a balanced program. For instance, inquire about the time that children report and leave the facility. Young children need adequate sleep. As such, the facility should not open very early in the morning. Most parents would want to pick their children up early to ensure they have adequate time to bond. Check the number of hours allocated for classroom activities playing, and sleep. The kids should have sufficient time for these activities.

What Curriculum Do You Use?

The childcare facility should use an accredited curriculum that promotes the holistic development of the child. Typically, it should allow the kids to hone their creative, communication, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, it should prepare the kids for formal learning. The kids should learn basic language, science and arithmetic skills when at the child care facility.

What Are The Qualifications Of Your Staff?

The facility should have highly trained staff. Other than their academic papers, look out for post-graduate training and continuous professional development courses. You should also assess the experience of the centre's employees. Interview some parents who take their kids to the child care centre to know how they treat children.

How Do You Maintain Discipline?

It is an essential consideration when choosing a child care facility. The school should have a reasonable method of dealing with indiscipline among the kids. For instance, they could give them warnings and inform parents of the alleged indiscipline. It ensures a collaborative effort between the teachers and parents in ensuring the children understand what is right and wrong.

What Happens If A Child Gets Ill?

The centre should have an effective health care policy. Child care centres will ask you to disclose your child's medical information. Typically, you are required to inform the centre whether your child has a developmental issue, allergy or long-term illness. This information will be used by the centre's nurse to monitor the health of your child. For instance, the professional could administer drugs at the required intervals and ensure the child does not come into contact with harmful materials.

You should now have an easy time interviewing a child care centre. Assess their program, curriculum, staff qualifications, discipline and health policies.

Child care after school

In some ways, it gets even harder to find child care for your kids when they start school. Not many jobs allow you to do school pick-ups and drop-offs each day and my job definitely requires more time in the office than that. Many parents find innovative solutions to make it all work, but other parents seem to really struggle with finding a great solution that works for them and the kids. That's why I thought I'd start a blog where parents and child care gurus could swap tips on the best ways to organise child care for school aged children.
